Week 14 - Final Presentations

Today students presented their completed final projects. The final project is to create a photographic book of 12 or more related images created over the course of the semester. Students are encouraged to widely interpret the idea of a "book."

Week 13 - Prototyping Final Projects

This week students brought selections, prototypes, and layouts for their final book projects.




HOMEWORK


DUE ON SUNDAY 12/16 AT 11:59pm:
5 documentation photographs of the completed book +
ALL digital files from book

Due to your Google Drive by 11:59pm on Sunday 12/16:
  • Create a new folder on your Google Drive titled with the following format "Your Name-Final Project-MMC-Fall 2018" Within this folder create 2 subfolders with:
    • 5+ documentation photographs of your completed book PLUS
    • High res digital files of ALL images included in book in a separate folder (acceptable file formats are JPG / JPEG, RAW [proprietary to your camera] or TIFF / TIF)
  • Digital images from ALL assignments are also due to Google Drive if not already there
  • Physical copies of finished book are due next Monday, 12/17 during class

Week 12 - Critique and Book Format

This week we critiqued new work for the final project, and made decisions about the final book format.

Week 11 - Critique, Final Themes and Formats

This week we had a very in-depth critique of new student work in which we discussed new images and formats for the final book project.

Some of you were missing posts to your blog about your decision for the final theme of your book and/or images to the Google Drive. If this is you please get those up ASAP.


HOMEWORK


  • 20-30 new prints due in class PLUS 
  • Book format due via blog post:  
    • 5+ sentence written proposal describing how you will print, bind and format your book 
    • 3+ images/sketches showing how your book will be printed, constructed, bound and presented. These could be:
      • Hand or computer drawn sketches of what you want the finished book to look like
      • Reference images of other books made similarly
  • 6 image selects for final due as blog post (post six images that show your "best of" so far, that you will definitely use in your book.)

Week 10 - Critique, Sequencing, White Balance, Flash

This week we had a critique of new work.

We also did a sequencing exercise, learning some considerations for editing and laying out a series of images.



Lastly we covered white balance and the use of flash.

  • Final decision on book theme - due next week to blog

      • 5+ sentences describing the theme of your book
      • 4-8 of your photographs from class so far that best show this idea

Week 8 - Series, Sequence, Narrative & Critique of New Work

This week we reviewed the midterm exam, looked at new student work and also looked at other works of other photographers, particularly some that work in series, sequence, or narrative.

HOMEWORK


  • Oral Presentations are due next week - you should be focusing all your efforts on preparing your materials for your presentation and don't forget to practice! Review the linked handout for all details
  • DIGITAL FILES OF YOUR SLIDESHOW AND HANDOUT ARE DUE TO GOOGLE DRIVE BY 11:59PM THE SUNDAY NIGHT BEFORE PRESENTATIONS ARE DUE IN CLASS (11/11)!
    • Create a new folder within your student work folder labeled with Oral Presentation and your name. In it include:
      • Slideshow 
      • Handout 
    • See the oral presentation guidelines handout for acceptable formats
  • Please remember to bring 11 copies of your written component/handout about your photographer with you to class. 
    • Any photocopying or printing of these handouts should be done well before class time
  • A new set of 20-30 photos will not be due next week because of the presentations, but will be due the following week, 11/19
